Oh, it's easy! The trams and buses guarantee that you can easily get to any place in the city. And, what's best, your dormitories are just in the campus and close to the city centre, so it's possible that you won't even need to use any trams :-)
In case you do - you must have a ticket. The same are for trams and buses, there is no difference, and they are valid for some time after validating your ticket. The price of the ticket depends on this time. You may for example validate it at 11:20 and if you buy one for half an hour, you may take one tram, then change it for another and then take a bus - if only you will manage to do this in 30 minutes. Here you are:
The prices given are for students, but as you are students, it is ok :-) You just need to have student ID with you.
It would be difficult to describe you all the trams and buses here, so if you wonder how you can get to some place in the city, please ask your mentor which one you should take.
However, there is a system of night buses working really well. Their numeration starts with N1 and finishes with N7. They all meet once every half an hour in one spot in the very city center (you will soon see where the stops are) and each dormitory has a night bus stop next to it.
For further information, you can download the most up-to-date bus ('autobusy'), tram ('tramwaje'), night bus (autobusy nocne') and possible bus & tram change at each stop ('przesiadki') schedules from the webpage of our city's municipal transport provider, MPK sp. z o.o. at:

We also highly recommend the new website www.lodz.poloko.pl/ which generates the best ways by buses and trams from your location to your destination!! Check it out!
You may also take a taxi - a good idea, if you are going with lots of luggage.
